Can your body heal from 2 years of smoking?

Question:
So I started smoking when I was a sophomore because my friends made me do it, and it has been about 2 years. I started out having 2 to 3 a day. then to about 4 to 5 a day, because work stresses me out. Now I decided to quit, and haven't smoked for about 4 days.
Im starting to feel the effects of it. Feels like I can't breath as good as I used too, and I have a cough that feels like its deep in my chest. It just plain feels bad.

how long will it take to recover?

Answers:
YES! You are lucky because you have done some damage to your lungs (but not like 30 years of smoking.) You are going to feel like crap in the short term but long term you are so much better off if you can maintain.
Everyone thinks about smoking related to lung cancer. This is true but there are a million other diseases that are either caused or made worse by smoking.
Give is several weeks to months but the first week will be the worst as you are most likely feeling the effects of no nicotine in your system.
Yes, your body can heal from smoking, and your breathing and cough will get better and better. I'm proud of you!
it is hard to stop. Like, really hard. My mom did it because she was never really addicted. She just liked the smell and it calmed her. If you want to quit, think about something else, continuously eat lollipops until normal, or get a guide to help you (like a book or a class)
To fully recover, it actually only takes 4 years for a heavy smoker, and you will be back to normal. (Studies are still testing this and the effect on cancer at this point though)
it really depends on the person and the damage done - two of my family members died young from lung cancer due to smoking...they say that if you quit for three years its almost like you never smoked as the body heals itself... just don't start back and hope for the best...maybe you should see a doc just in case
If you quit right now and do not pick up the vile habit again you will have assured yourself a body healing. The healing begins right away.
2 years of smoking is nothing, especially if you are only having 4 to 5 cigarettes a day. You will be ok and should feel good real soon.
Yeah, You're fine. In fact, it looks like you still have a lot of time to smoke, up to age 35, and still be fine. Enjoy! (As long as you are over 18!)
It can only if it is exactly 2 years. Two years and one day it can not.
