Rolled my ankle. How do i get rid of swelling?

Question:
I rolled my left ankle playing basketball when i landed on someone's ankle about six weeks ago. It does not hurt anymore, but there is still some minor swelling around the left side of my foot, by the fibular. How do i get rid of the swelling? or will it go away by itself?

Answers:
It seems unusual for there to still be swelling after 6 weeks, if it was just a rolled ankle. Did you get it checked out at the time? Did you get it x-rayed?
If there isn't anything much in the way of pain it may just be tendon sheath filled with fluid, caused by the unusual stretching, which will disperse with time. You can speed up the process by applying alternating hot and cold compresses (10 minutes of each) to speed up circulation, and thus aid healing.
But if the swelling persists much longer, get it re-checked.
ice

ibuprofen
It will go away. In the beginning, ice, elevation, and pressure bandaging would have helped.
usually it will go away by itself, but try soaking it in warm water with epson salt. or ice
Epson Salts soaks and lots and lots of ice. keep it elevated as much as possible, grab a movie and and a big ice tea sit down watch that movie and pack that puppy in ice. 20 minutes on 20 minutes off, any more will only accomplish freezing the skin which will accomplish ...nothing except freezing the skin. Feel better!!
