Do tattoos hurt and what can i do to prevent the pain?

Question:

Answers:
Yes, they do.. some places hurt worse than others. Example: shoulders and forearms don't hurt nearly as bad as feet and calves. If you don't think you can hack the pain, don't get one, because chances are you'll have to stop halfway through and be stuck with an unfinished tattoo. I disagree that they are indicative of "trailer trash", that is a small minded generalization and couldn't be further from the truth. People from ALL walks of life and backgrounds have tattoos and piercings. If you are really interested in getting one, do it, but remember that you're stuck with whatever you get. Oh, and don't even bother with Tylenol, Advil. Won't work. And drinking alcohol before hand will make your ink bleed out because it is a BLOOD THINNER, not to mention that reputable artists won't touch you if you've been drinking.
Yes they hurt some and there is nothing you can do to prevent the pain.
Yes, You really have to want something to go thru the pain in life - generally speaking. If having babies naturally is very painful why do women keep having more than one. So if your into body art , you'll get past the pain. no prob...
They're more of an annoyance than an actual pain. The 'pain' will stop as soon as they're done putting it on you.

For the next few days, it will just feel like a minor sunburn, but all you do is put moisturizer (use what they recommend) on it, but that doesn't hurt.
Yes they do. Think of it this way: Does getting a shot hurt? How about several hundred shots at once, all in the same small area? Imagine someone dragging a knife slowly across your skin and that'll give you an idea.

There's nothing you can do to prevent the pain. In the old days you would just get drunk first, but now there are laws that prohibit tattoo artists from tattooing anyone who has been drinking. And there is no other drug, prescription or otherwise, that'll ease the pain while they're tattooing you.

Do yourself a favor: Don't get one. Very few things scream trailer trash like a tattoo (body piercings rank up there too).
Do they hurt : YES THEY DO.
To relieve the pain : DONT GET ONE.
Yes they hurt. Don't get one- that will prevent the pain!
If you've got your heart set on getting a tattoo, getting a small one will minimize the pain. If you want a large one, you may have to go back a few times - most people just have the tattoo artist stop when it gets to be too much for them. One thing I would say is DO NOT take Tylenol, Advil etc. beforehand because chances are they will wear off partway through the tattooing, and it will hurt more than if you just go in drug-free and give yourself time to get used to it.
the best way to prevent pain is to demolish the idea of getting one.this saves thenpain and the trouble
