Femur bone healing time?

Question:
I broke my Femur Bone where it connects with the Tibia, I had a rod and a bunch of pins place on it. What's the recovery time on it, when do I get to put weight on my leg?

Answers:
My son broke his femur when he was 24. He's 27 now. His break was up closer to his hip (but still called a mid-shaft break)
He was non weight bearing for around 3 months. Recovery time is usually around 6-12 months. Unfortunately my son had 2 non-unions & 6 surgeries. He ended up having the rod removed and a plate put in. It has been almost 3 years & he's just getting back to normal now. He can do most things, but still can't run.
This can sometimes take up to 3 months to completely heal. It depends alot on the person, sometimes longer or sometimes not so long. You will probably be able to put weight on it in a few weeks. Just follow every thing your doctor tells you - this is important.
