Never felt like this before. Was I really just sick, or could it had been more serious?!What was wrong with me
Question:
My sister and I went up to go to bed (we share a room) and I just had the worst feeling in my stomach, like VERY BAD cramps (wasn't on my period or anything) and I couldn't fall asleep and I just kept crying and finally fell asleep. When I woke up I had the same feeling. I sat on the steps and it hurt so bad and I cried and felt like I was going to puke so I went into the bathroom, and I did end up puking. All of a sudden my stomach didn't feel all crampish but I ended up having a fever and other flu like symptoms I didn't feel in the kitchen before. I hadn't thrown up in five years before that.
Answers:
You were sick and by throwing up, your body got rid of the part of the virus that was causing the cramps. However the virus was still in your system and worked its way out through the fever and other symptoms. I think it was just weird timing that it happened during a family spat. You'll probably find that you go much longer between bouts of illness as you get older. Your immunity has built itself up and fights off a lot of viruses and flus that circulate around. Too bad your immunity can't fight off the family crisis, too!
PS Panic Attacks are NOT accompanied by FEVER.. Fever is a symptom of physical illness not mental illness. Check with a doctor but I'm positive on that.
Sounds like you might have had a stomach virus coming on -- unfortunately it coincided with the fight with your Mom. It could also be that your nerves brought the virus out to the forefront, sometimes when our nerves are bad or we're stressed, we leave ourselves open for illnesses.
I'm so sorry to hear that you're not feeling well. Emotional distress can and frequently does manifest as physical symptoms. You may want to ask to speak to a counselor to work through your emotions and learn coping mechanisms so that you aren't crippled by them. I had the same kind of stuff happen to me when I was a kid and I still get diarrhea when I get really freaked out - they call it IBS, I call it "I need to catch less crap from all you people"!
Good luck to you sweetie - hope you're feeling better soon.
Sounds like you may have had a panic attack.
Panic attacks are caused by a small organ in the brain called the Amygdala. The Amygdala is responsible for the anxiety reaction which generates panic attacks.
The Amygdala acts like a panic attack 'switch'. When you repeatedly experience panic attacks, stress or anxiety this 'switch' can become 'stuck' in the anxiety ON position.
When panic attacks engulf us, we are actually stronger than we may feel. It is also true that many people might feel frightened that their heart will suffer or give up through the constant racing, thumping or chest pains experienced during panic attacks,BUT this is not true.
No one has ever died of, or come to any harm as a result of panic attacks!
The heart is a muscle, so actually, there are benefits from the exercise that the heart gets during panic attacks. Most people have to work out to give the heart the same amount of exercise that you give it during panic attacks.
Anxiety and panic attacks are caused by the nervous system as a response to danger in order to prepare us for that danger, it stands to reason that panic attacks are part of our 'self preservation' and although they can feel dreadful, they are meant to help us.
Panic attacks can leave your body feeling tired and shaky. Most exercise does! Panic attacks can make you feel weak and extremely unwell, as if you have the flu or a fever.
Unfortunately these feelings are an inevitable side effect of panic attacks but they will definitely start to improve as you start to recover from and eliminate your anxiety disorder.
ALL panic attack symptoms are caused by confused bodily sensations and nerve impulses, you may feel weak, shaky, anxious and tired but this will NOT harm you!
Sounds like a 'bad case' of "Bad Nerves"!
Your BODY 're-acts' to your EMOTIONAL 'stress'!
It sounds as though the 'blow-up' was pretty hard on you! If your symptoms went away as quickly as they came, it was probably due to your family 'crisis'! Though if the physical feelings have persisted, you may want to see a Doctor. "Stress" can play havoc with ones' mind, body & soul!
Get well!
P.S. -Even if you feel better 'physically' but 'emotionally' are feeling down, you really should go see a Doc! "Emotional/Mental" discomfort="Physical/Bodily" discomfort!
