What kind of doctor do I need for this?

Question:
I went to the closest ER 'cause I thiught I had broken my finger. They had to cut my ring off 3 days ago. It's still severly swelled and the doctor just said to follow up if needed and diagnosed me with a contusion. I can't even bend my finger. It hurts REALLY bad and you can see where it may be fractured or broken. I was goin' to go to a specialist, but I need to know what the name of them are if it's a hand specialist or a bone doctor, instead of a Physician. Anotherwards, would I be beter off with an orthopedic or what?

Answers:
Hey there!

You want to go to an Orthopedist, =-) Even if it is just a contusion, they will know how to treat it, and may be able to show you how to wrap it for extra support.

It will hurt for a while, I broke my hand two years ago, and it hurt for 4 months!!

Good Luck!
Try an orthopedic, they specalize in bones. If it's not the bone then he can tell you where you need to go if its somethin gout of his spec.
Your best bet is a plastic surgeon with specialty in hand if needed. First see your family doctor and he'll tell you if a referral is still needed.
An orthopedic is the one to see but they should have taken an Xray in the ER. That sounds like incompetence to me.
I am an Orthopaedic nurse and I definately think you should see an Ortho. doctor. They will take xrays and give you some type of splint.
Go to an orthopedic who specializes in hands. If for some reason you have a fracture and need surgery you will be thankful that you are seeing a doc who specializes in hands.
