How long can someone?

Question:
carry on , on just 4 hours sleep a night before they crack up?

Answers:
i work nite shift and am also a mother of 3 (although my youngest is 5 now and in school along w/her siblings so my heart goes out to you).

i've been living off of 4 hours of sleep for years but with all you have to endure-this will take it's toll on you and soon!!

is there anyone (friends, family, neighbors) that you trust enough to watch your children for you so you can get some rest for about an hour or so per day?

do you nap when the children (baby included) nap? this is what got me through those babies years.

you didnt explain the situation w/the disabled needing care but have you looked into a "daycare" for them to go for a few hours a day? i know in my state they have these set-up so the caregivers of these disabled people can get a break for a while.

if you are married of have a live-in bf why not ask him to help you out a bit. when he gets home from work-have him take over for an hour or so to give you a break and allow you some rest time.

this is a tough situation and you need your sleep with all the people you care for. i would go to bed at night as soon as the baby goes down-start getting the rest of your household to do the same (especially if you're other children are younger). this will help you get more sleep at nite

i hope all works out for you!!
depends -I work nights and regularly find myself having to work and shop and run a house on 4 hours sleep in 24 hours! But then I crash after 5 days or so...
Ask some new parents...
It depends on the person but for most this is not enough and after a short while they will be in trouble.
I sleep for about 5-6 hours per night, sometimes even less and i've been this way for years and it seems enough for me. I guess everyone is different, my girlfriend is a right sleepy head, she needs at least 8 hours but can easily sleep for more. I guess it depends upon how you are woken up, if you wake up by yourself after 4 hours then fine, your body has had enough. But if you continually get woken up before you really want to then I guess after couple of weeks you would start to feel very irritable and be unable to concentrate.
Try and take a nap in the afternoon ,,and try and get some help,,,,looking after your family,,,
You're amazing! God bless you for being able to do all of this. Is there anyone around to help you?
I understand how desparate you must feel . In such circumstances , you have to programme yourself . Your new baby MUST be on 4 hourly feeds , NOT demand feeding ! I don't know how old your new baby is , but the 2am night feed can be cut out faily quickly . Write yourself a daily timetable and stick to it . You must have some children who go to school or playschool ; which should give you a break from them . Try to feed , service , your disabled in the early morning , be sure that they do for themselves all that the can . Some people won't lift a finger , be firm with them , make them do things they reasonably can .
After the baby's bath and feed at 10am , put the baby down to sleep ; You have a liedown and sleep too , set an alarm if necessary .
It doesn't matter how you programme extra rest and sleep ; but you must do it . Try to confine shopping to one big shop a week .
In the evening , after supper , get your children to bed , followed by your disabled ; then go to bed yourself , or at least be ready for bed before the 10pm feed .
Write yourself a Daily Timetable and stick to it ! Good Luck !
You are going to need some help. You are putting too much strain on your body. Do you have a partner/husband that can help you? Or even ask a family member, if you keep going like this you will make yourself ill. Good Luck.
