How painful is radio frequency lesioning for back pain ?

Question:
I will be getting this treatment in the facet joints of the lower back . I have been told I will not be able to drive afterwords so I assume I will be getting some kind of sedatives . Is this a painful procedure ? I would like to know if you have had experience with this procedure . Thanks

Answers:
I work in a hospital where this procedure is performed, however, the doc that may be performing your treatment might be different. At my hospital, you are given a medication called versed, which basically gives you a slight amnesia, so that you may not remember much about the procedure. You may feel a little stick when he numbs your back (like a bee sting), but once the numbing medication takes effect you should not be uncomfortable at all. You are not allowed to drive afterwards due to the medication you are given, as well as the fact that you may have a little numbness or weakness. Most of the patients that have had this procedure have had very good results. I hope you do too!
