Husband stepped on a nail,got a techna -shot but it still hurts what can put on it to take away soreness?

It is called a tetanus shot, to help prevent infection from bacteria entering the wound.
The soreness will fade away as the wound heals, but give hubby a couple of aspirin or Tylenol to help with the pain. At this point, you don't want to disturb the dressing with heat or cold packs. These are for first aid, not for the recovery.
Ice helps numb it and prevents swelling.

Pain killers and keep it elevated. I did this last year on a 3" wood screw right into the arch and I found if it ( foot ) was up i was not too bad but as soon as I lowered it the sucker throbbed...good call on the shot I did that too.
Old-time standard treatment:
Soak foot in a pail of hot, salty water.
Repeat 3 times a day till healed.
