My parents are smoking and I can't stand the smoke, does this affect my growth?
Question:
Answers:
Secondhand smoke can stunt the growth of your lungs, and may be responsible for dimished brain capacity to a degree of about 1%.
When the growth of an internal organs is stunted, some health professionals and scientists suggest that the effects of that problem weigh on the other organs. This means, for instance, stunted lung growth means you can take in less air, which can change heart function and alter the blood filtering capacity of the heart, thereby stunting its growth, and so on. However, this has not been completely proven to be true.
It has been suggested also that decreased function of bodily organs due to stunted growth or low mass while the body is in the process of growing may in fact lead to stunted or abnormal growth.
Whether its true or not, secondhand smoke is dangerous. Here are some facts for you:
The evidence is clear and consistent: secondhand smoke is a cause of lung cancer in those who don't smoke. EPA estimates that secondhand smoke is responsible for about 3,000 lung cancer deaths each year among nonsmokers in the U.S.; of these, the estimate is 800 from exposure to secondhand smoke at home and 2,200 from exposure in work or social situations.
In children under 18 years of age, secondhand smoke exposure also results in more coughing and wheezing, a small but significant decrease in lung function, and an increase in fluid in the middle ear. Children with asthma have more frequent and more severe asthma attacks because of exposure to secondhand smoke. We have also seen the onset of asthma in children who did not previously have symptoms in homes with smokers.
These are only some of the facts. Check out this website and learn how secondhand smoke can affect the whole family, and the home:

The fact that you can actually inhale the smoke of the cigar is already a basis of being affected in terms of your health. That is passive smoking.Passive smokers are those who are not smoking but inhale the smoke from a nearby active smoker. And if I remember my lesson right, passive smokers are greatly affected and acquire sickness badly than the active ones thus affecting ones physical growth. So better get away from cigarrette smokers!
Yes it does effect you. Studies have proven that 2nd hand smoke is very harmfull. Go to your parents and tell them, that you don't want to get cancer because of their choice to smoke. Ask them to do their smoking outside of the home and any car that you are a passenger in. If you think that they might argue about it or not believe you,get information about the effects of smoking and ask them to read it. Good luck
You are a passive smoker, it is not good for health, lungs & growth also. First you should not go infront of them & it is better to explain every thing to your parents instead of what you are intimating to us. I hope you will get better result.
