My shoulder hurts really bad if I try to move my arm perpendicular from my body. I hurts so bad it has woken me up at 5 in the morning and has been hurting for about a week. This also happened about 8 months ago and hurt for about 2 weeks. It also "moved" (the pain) from my shoulders to my knees during that time.

Sounds like it could be bursitis which is very painful and tends to flare up periodically. Talk to your doctor about it. There are things that will help.
