Answers:
too much excercise
What you need is to see a doctor about your knees. Your condition is only going to get worse with time. Now is the time to start dealing with your joint pain and the best way to do that is under the care of a doctor. You can still exercise, but you are going to need a very low impact regime, bicycling perhaps.
you need to rest your knees not exercize em. Doh ..
If you keep using your knees they're gonna get worse. Go see a doctor or physiotherapist. With damaged knees, almost everything you do becomes difficult or painful.
Get over your dislike of swimming, it's the only good way to get the heart rate going without making your knees worse. They put chemicals in the water to kill all the nasty stuff, you'll be fine. Find a lake/ocean/private pool if you really can't face a public one. You can even buy your own from Costco or walmart.
try to keep off your knees for one. treadmill, bike riding, dancing
You may be exercising too much and making the problem worse and you need to do low impact exercises If you've seen a doctor did he prescribe you antibiotics if infection has set in or diuretics to remove the excess fluid? Keep the leg elevated whilst sitting IE this will stop the fluid settling around the joint also sleep with you knee and leg supported with a pillow again the leg is elevated. Good luck and hope you find out the problem soon and get it sorted.
