This is not good. Let me start by telling you that I believe you and know that you are in pain!! I also suffer from DDD, and have had to had surgery for my discs. I am curious what type of doctor that you where seeing, because although you did cross some boundries where medication is concerned you cannot just be hung out on a limb.
Heres the deal... This day in age, doctors are worried about prescribing medications of this sort because there is so much abuse of it. Alot of people who are in horrible pain have been ignored because of this mass fear. When you "run short" of your medication you are sending a warning flag to your doctor that may or may not be a concern. You where prescribed a very low dose and it probably wasn't enough for your pain but you didn't really do the right thing by taking extra. You really should have called and explained your situation to her. Now, you may have felt that you wouldn't get anywhere with her, I don't know, It wouldn't surprise me though.
With all of my pain I was refered to a Pain Management clinic, and they watch our medications like a hawk. I signed a contract with them. I have to take my prescriptions to the same pharamcy always, and they have to know which one. I have to be willing to take a drug test at any time if they ask me, or I can be called at any time to bring my pills in for a "count". If any of those things go wrong, they can dismiss me. But, I am also trusted that when I go for my monthly appts if I say that I don't really think the meds are doing there job, they will adjust them for me without making me feel like i am just out to get high.
If what you have written in the whole story, and your doctor isn't going to help you with your documented pain (which is illegal by the way), then you will have to turn her in and seek help elsewhere. If you go to a hospital type clinic, then you can go and speak with the hospitals patients advocate, they are there for you.
Just try to explain that you were not educated on the conditions of your medication and you are just so desperate to get rid of the pain you made some mistakes. You have very painfull and some chronic conditions and you must have help, neither one of these conditions should go unmedicated and your doctors know this, so just be rational with them and hopefully they will be with you.
Good Luck, I hope you find the relief that you need.
Sounds like you need another doctor. Try to also see a chiropractor. I have 2 bad disc and I see a chiropractor at least 3 times a month. It really helps when my meds run l ow. Try using ice and a muscle cream called bio freeze. If you have a tens unit use it. If you don't have one ask your doctor or chiropractor about getting one.
Good Luck
I would not recommend detox. The Buprenorphine sounds a better choice, as it is a pain suppressor; but I'm not very familiar with it. I would suggest a pain management course while taking the opiates. Unfortunately there are not enough pain management courses, and they are found at large hospitals. Almost everyone on opiates long term will experience less relief due to tolerance, and seek larger doses just to get back to "normal". Eventually many people just have to learn how to manage the pain. They had me in the physical therapy a couple times and it didn't work for me. My pain at that time was lower back. I did find accidentally find that snorkeling and diving with fins strenghtened my muscles in that region, and I experienced a peace I hadn't had in years. I bicycle hunched over on a ten speed, but it's not as relieving as the swimming with fins. Now the problem is up in my neck and I will put off any surgery as long as I can. I really don't want to drug or drink again, and will try out a chiropractor shortly. Good luck.
i am 25 years old i also have DDD good way to put that by the way...i was in your position as well about a year ago...no one believed me and they started me on methadone which actually worked really well for my nerve pain but made me sick about 3 x a day it sucked..so here's the best advise from one person to another find a different doctor..that's the only way you are going to get better otherwise you are just going to suffer more and more and get worse and worse trust me you can never get use to the pain and the pain is always different...some doctors don't believe anyone can be in pain and some doctors believe in making you feel comfortable..that's what you need a doctor to make you feel comfortable...if worse comes to worse it's time to head to the ER...however i know that the Oxycontin works the best but want you to know that they will be taking it off the market and you will only have the name brand available which is really really expensive...and your insurance won't pick it up...however when my doctor switched me over he put me on morphine sulfate 15 mg it works great for the pain but isn't as good as the Oxycontin...well good luck i hope you can find a better doctor...
You definately need a new doctor. Ive never been cut off, but Ive had docs that don't prescribe enough so I tell them "I wouldn't run out early if I had enough." If they still don't, I get a new doc Ive done 3 times. sometimes if you ask them if they know another Dr. who knows how to manage pain they will be more motivated to keep you happy so they dont lose you as a patient. Remember they make money every time you come in to see them. I know a few docs near seattle if your near there
