Scared of surgery tomorrow?

I had it done on my big toe 13 years ago when I was 12, so trust me if I could do it then you can do it now. The worst part is what you are going through now, the nervous waiting. The only painful part is having the shot that numbs the toe. I have a very high tolerance to these numbing agents so it took 3 shots for my toe to go numb. After that the only thing you will feel is pressure. It's almost a pulling sensation. The best thing to do is bring a friend or a magazine and lay back and don't' look! There will be blood so seeing what they are doing is not something I would recommend. It's relatively simple and you will be able to leave right afterward. Wear shoes like flip flops because your toe will be wrapped up and numb for several hours afterward. Mine healed very fast, just had to soak my foot in Epsom salt water a couple times a day to keep it clean. The toe nail now is skinnier than the one on my other foot because of some nerves they cut so it won't grow back in. What you are going through now is way more pain than what you will be in during and after the surgery. So keep calm and try to relax, you will be fine.
The main thing is not to worry, you will be with people that have years of experience and they will explain everything ok? Good luck
I've never had the surgery before, but I've had other surgeries that required a hospital stay and such. You should have nothing at all to worry about.
The injection they give will numb your toe up and shouldn't hurt when it's given. Depending on what they use there may be a burning sensation when they inject it (they should warn you about this if that's the case) but it wont exactly be "painful" just uncomfortable. After a few seconds the toe will be numb and you wont feel anything else. If you do happen to still have pain or discomfort during the actual surgery just let the doctor know and he'll give the toe another injection. Doctors really don't want you to have any pain so they'll be happy to make sure the toe is completely numb.
I assume the toe will probably be quite sore for a few days once the surgery is complete but they'll probably prescribe some sort of pain killer for you to take so that it wont be too bad.
Good luck!
Surgery is always scary; however, your surgery is a relatively minor procedure...no, the shot doesn't hurt; you will feel nothing, and perhaps just very minor pain afterwards...
The shot will only be a little prick. Your foot may be a litltle sore after surgery but it will not hurt anything like as much as an ingrown toenail.
The toenail is the sick making part - tomorrow you have relief.
Relax and look forward to a pain free life.
For most people, the anesthesia shot is the worst part. It is pretty good sting followed by a bit of burning, but it only a couple of seconds. Most people don't even fill the second anesthesia shot. I'm not sure which surgery you're getting, but it won't be as bad as you think. I just had a "selective nerve root block" shot. I stressed for 4 days before, and I only felt the first anesthesia shot. The stress will be worse than the surgery. Good luck with the surgery, and I hope you're stress level goes down.
i feel for i dont think you will have a problem the shot wont hurt but like 5 secs and the rest wont hurt cause it will be numb. i have a fear of the dentist.
Don't be scared! Your doctors and nurses went through a lot of schooling to get where they are today trust me. Just try to stay calm and relaxed, if you are super nervous tell them so they can give you a sedation drug like valium or xanax.
Any shot you get you'll feel a slight pinch and then you'll go numb. The surgery shouldn't hurt at all - maybe a little bit of pressure, but other than that you shouldn't feel a thing. If you do start feeling something make sure your doctor knows it so he/she can give you more of a numbing drug.
After the surgery is complete and the medications wear off you'll probably be sore for a few days. Just follow doctors instructions (pain meds, ice, rest) whatever they tell you and you will be 100% fine. If they don't give you pain meds, take motrin or tylenol for pain.
You'll be okay I promise, just stay calm. You're in good hands.
Good Luck. :-)
I know how you feel, I had to have my tonsils out last year and I went all by myself. DO NOT worry you will be fine. I was so scared also. :)
I had my ankle bone screwed back together and I do not remember anything.I have no idea when they knocked me out, just some fuzzy notion.I recall something about,"We are going to start prepping you now".An IV went into my arm and that is about all that I can recall. And I don't remember that too awfully well.
That ingrown toenail will give you more pain than the surgery.
You may have some pain later on,but you will be number than rock before they start.
You will be SO glad after it is done,no more toenail pain.
I just had a tooth pulled and I did not know it was out until I saw the tooth.
in january of this year i had a toe removed..i was awake the entire time..no problems at all..didnt even feel the needle..the only problem i have now...is when i walk barefoot my foot whistles...ha haha .i hope that cheared yaup a little...beam me up scottie
I wish you luck! The procedure you are having is a routine procedure. They won't even put you to sleep for it. The shot might hurt, but if it does, it will only be for a second.
I know you are nervous (I am having surgery next week so I feel your anxiety) but make sure you get a good nights rest tonight. Tell your doctor about your worries and he can put your mind at ease. If you are able to eat before your surgery, make sure you have a good breakfast. Take a deep breath. You will be ok. And once it's over and healed, it will feel so much better.
