Anyone have or ever had re-occurence of a swelling knee?

My son had knees that would swell up a little but not be too pain-full then he had an accident on his bike and really damaged his right knee and was in agony. He had damaged his cartilage and needed surgery so they did an arthroscopy and repaired it. While in there they found something that had not shown up on the scan - one of the bands of tissue in his knee was wider and thicker than normal, so they trimmed that as much as they could. They said it was a birth abnormality and may need further 'open knee' surgery if it became too much of a problem.
Since the op on his right knee it is fine, but the left one still swells for little or no reason - so he probably has this thick band in that knee too.
You really should get this checked out as you don't know what you are dealing with. With the cartilage damage he had to stop all sport until it was repaired or risk serious damage, but with the thick band he is allowed to do sport. If you don't know what you have, you could be causing more injury to yourself.
I had the same thing happening for awhile. I fell down a set of bleachers at a summer camp, and had a "severe contusion"... The way we treated it was icing it for 30 minutes before any strenuous activity, advil every four hours, and we got a really excellent wrap from the hospital, it was wider than a normal wrap... I was also on crutches when it swelled. I hope this helped!
yes hello,i Had recurrence of a swelling it turn out to be a Carlie ripped in the knee i almost didn't walk after the surgery.so what aim saying dint play around go to the Doctor get arrayed make sure you are OK dint others opinions go go go take care.
You may need an arthroscopy to determine what the problem is. My knee kept swelling up and I had an arthroscopy done and I had a torn meniscus and the beginning of arthritis. They fixed the torn meniscus but there's not much they could do about the arthritis except shave it down and it feels so much better !! LOL
could be arthritis or sports injury-you need to see a doctor,or you may be making it worse
Sounds like you have a torn meniscus. Your GP can refer you to orthopaedic surgeon for an arthroscopy where they can look into the joint and do any repairs if necessary. You only need to go into hospital as a day case and can usually walk pretty quickly afterwards, and drive within a few days.
I have, I find physical therapy helps a lot
