Answers:
Sounds like you've got fluid on the knee. I get the same. I've had it since I had a nasty fall when I was younger. Got to the doc's and get them to drain it for you :)

In the meantime, wear a tubigrip.
when i was young i broke my legs. not at same time thank goodness. i think that when i fell it did something to my knees. now years later i have developed arthritis in both. the leg that had worse break has worse arthritis.. most days i dont even notice. but sometimes it will twist or just go out of place or if i bump it herd enough, the pain will be so intense that it wakes me up.......... this, alternate hot and cold packs see wich feels better, i use a bag of frozen veggie, and i have a long tube sock filled with rice, tie knot at the end and microwave for about 1 min..the rice sock will last a long time.years even... i know when my knees get bad, i can hardly get out of chair. or sit-get up from toilet. forget stairs.. which is hard since the bathroom is up there. try ibufrofin, advil , tylenol, aleve. go to doc if non of this works...
