How can i stimulate my fiance's nerve in his arm?

Question:
my fiance was shot by a car burgular, his fingers feel as if he hit his funny bone at all times, his lower arm itches from the surgery and his upper arm where most work was done hurts constantly, the dr. said his nerves are healing but sticking to his skin and that he should massage it often, is there anything else we could do to ease the pain? any recommended creams ?

Answers:
Massage is good, because it helps to de-sensitize the nerves . . .when new nerves are built -- they're so incredibly sensitive that everything (even a massage) will probably hurt like hell.

Ice (cold heat) is a good thing to use . . . don't apply ice directly to the skin, because it can cause damage -- it'll help with some of the discomfort, but you may want to not leave it on long at all, because it can actually cause nerve damage -- especially when sensation is lacking (or, in this case, to the extreme).
