Surgeon wants money upfront because of diffficulty w/ Medicare?
Question:
My mother-in-law says that she called medicare and got approval for the surgery.
My question is how do I make sure the Surgeon makes an effort to collect from Medicare. (it's my $6000)
Answers:
DO NOT pay up front. Talk to another surgeon.
I would run from this doctor.
You shouldn't pay up front if insurance approved the surgery.

Reduction Feb 2006, insurance paid 100%.
Get a pre-certification letter from insurance company stating they are agreeing to pay "X" amount for this procedure. We have to do this alot with expensive radiology procedures where I work.
its not uncommon ive had this happen to me before with many drs. just be sure to get proof of payment so you can submit for reimbursement once the dr has been paid.
