Why is my heel hurting?

Question:
My heel is really hurting me and I don't know exactly what to do. About a week ago I jumped off the platform on the back of my boat onto my tube and smashed my left heel on the platform accidently. It hurt for a couple minutes but the pain eventually subsided. I didn't really notice any pain until a couple days ago. It's the same heel and just the one. It's swollen quite a bit but no bruising that I can see. I've put ice on it and elevated it and it felt better but once the ice is off the pain comes right back after a few seconds. It hurts no matter how I walk. I tried walking on my toes but it didn't relieve the pain. Theres even still some pain when I'm laying down, not as bad of course, but it's there. Maybe it's broken? I don't know! Any ideas on what I should do? I only want it to get looked at by a doctor if I really need to. Our town is short of doctors and I really don't want to be a bother. Maybe it'll just go away, but for now how should I deal with the pain? (P.S. I'm 17)

Answers:
It's probably is caused by plantar fasciitis which is resulting inflammation around the area. Plantar fasciitis often causes pain that is more severe following a period of rest (like in your case).

Heel pain is difficult to cure and often takes months to subside, but most cases can be resolved using conservative treatment methods. Conservative treatment includes the following:
1. Avoiding activities that worsen the condition (e.g., prolonged standing, strenuous exercise)
2. Applying ice to the area to reduce pain and inflammation 3. Wearing well-cushioned shoes that fit properly.

My heel pain started a few weeks ago. It got alot better now but it's still hurting. I was told by my doctor that it will go away by itself if you follow the above instruction. Taking anti-inflammatory medications can give some temporary relief from heel pain!
Sorry about your heel. Have you tried Tylenole or Advill to stop the pain?
I understand. I'm on a step team and sometimes i stomp so hard that it feels like i'm stomping barefeet on concrete. It's usually in my right foot and yes it is intense, but it should go away with time. Try soaking it in warm water with epsom salt and try to stay off of it as much as u can...Hope it helps!!
