Answers:
without looking at it and the symptoms you described it sounds like a sprained / strained ankle. Just remember to ice it and elevate it and go to your rehab appts. You may have done ligament and tendon damage along with muscle damage. Use anti-inflammitories like Aleve or Motrin to reduce the swelling and wear your support devices
Has your doctor suggested physical therapy?
Get some ointments that might help heal your ankle. Such as Bengay. The popping doesn't sound good though. See a chiropractor?
It sounds like you could have some ligament damage. It is very likely that x-rays would not show this. The popping is the joint itself but if you have ligment or tendon damage it can cause the joint to be pulled in one direction or another and cause it to pop, would also definitely cause pain.
Use crutches or a cane until you can walk properly. If you are limping you are causing stress to all your other joints, including your back.
Keep visiting the doctor and tell him about the cracking sounds, might be ligaments.
Remember.....a sprain sometimes takes longe to heal than a break so take good care of that ankle until it feels well, you want total recovery.
That was a nasty injury,
a person can injure their ankles
and the pain can be intense
If you were my daughter I would demand you be checked out
foot x-rayed
quite often popping sound could indicate either sprain or broken bones.
Have you done rest this means keeping the injured still
ice ( crushed ice ) afew times daily
compression roller bandage
when lying down elevation this means on some pillows above the heart
use ice to bring the swelling down, this is what causes discoloration after swelling is down switch to heat. You need to get a second opinion if the doctor is just giving you the run around. As a rule crutches and a cast for 6 to 8 weeks.
If you have had x-rays and/or MRI since your latest episode and still nothing shows, my doctor recommends RICE (rest, ice, compression and exercise). Celebrex might or might not help; your doctor is the best judge of that. Aspirin might help, too. If you go that route, please follow directions carefully, as aspirin is a blood thinner and can cause excessive bleeding if you get a cut.
