knee replacement is a big thing and i think u r still young for such operation
Did the doctor originally say that the back of the knee cap was thinning or the back of the knee. If it was the back of the knee then the current symptoms are not really related. What it seems like you are describing is either patellofemoral pain syndrome or chondromalacia patellae. Different then osteoarthritis in the knee. You would not need a knee replacement for the conditions regarding your knee cap. My suggestion is to find a good orthopedic and have the doc look at your knee.
My mother has the same thing going on with her . What I would suggest is definetly hold off on getting a knee replacement it would wear out because you are still young and very active and usually doctors would not recommend that if that is the case but since your doctor recommended that for you I would suggest going to see another doctor for another oponion . Also ask your doctor about the injections they can give you in your knee, or the shocking treatment that you can use to help with the pain I know my mother has tried those they can help she said a little but she said it will still be a dull pain , but I say every indiviual is different ,but usually a knee replacement is the last resort if it is done to early in life you will need another one.
