My daughter has leg cramps so bad!!?
Question:
Answers:
It could be from a lack of potassium!
Does she take a multi-vitamin? If not have her start taking one.
Maybe give her a banana a day until you see that they are getting better.
This happened to me before and that is how i got rid of them.
make sure that she is drinking enough water. being dehydrated will cause muscle cramps
I had a lot of leg cramps when I played soccer in HS and found that drinking OJ before the game helped. Try having her down a glass before bed.
charlie horses (the ones in the calf) occur b/c the body is lacking potassium...eat a banana! I get them a lot and so i eat a banana every day and they go away.
Oh, we went through this, too.
The only relief our little girl ever got was to never, ever let her get over-tired. This meant leaving early sometimes, even though she seemed awake, alert, and happy, but the nights we kept her up late were the growing pains nights.
Make sure you learn how to stretch the specific muscles that are paining her. Calf stretch would be completely different from hamstrings or quadriceps.
See another doctor. This is far from normal - forget the growing pain theory. Also, do not rub the leg in case there is a clot, you can dislodge it.
She needs to have blood work done. She may have a low potassium count among other conditions, such as her blood clotting too much.
I've gotten leg cramps driving my car on long trips, the only thing I've found works for me is to stop the car, get out and stretch my legs!
ATHLETES GET CRAMPS ALL OF THE TIME..AND ALSO PEOPLE THAT WORK OUT IN THE SUN.THEY PERSPIRE AND LOSE SALT. THATS WHY THEY ARE GIVEN SALT TABS.
TRY SALT TABLETS OR PUT A LITTLE SAUCER OF SALT BY HER BED. WHEN SHE HAS A CRAMP HAVE HER PUT SOME SALT UNDER HER TONGUE.
Could be a magnesium deficiency.
Try a Yahoo search for "leg cramps" + "natural remedies".
