Oxycodone percocet question, serious answers only pls?

Question:
Hi, I had surgery a week and half ago and I had to take oxycodone. I hate taking any medication but I had to for the pain. I've been trying to take as little as possible, I was allowed to take 2 pills every 4 hours but at the most I took one, and now Im only taking a half of one when I really need it.

My question is, I am starting to notice if I dont take it I feel sort of depressed, negative, and sort of agitated. This is really strange for me because I'm almost always happy and positive even when things aren't so great.

I never take medication - so does anyone know if this could be some sort of mild addictive reaction?? I cant stop taking it yet because Im still in pain, and of course I want to take as little as possible, but could I be having sort of a withdrawl from it in this short of a time period? thanks for any advice, my dr is not talkative and I dont want to be switched to anything else, I want to be off it!

i learned from my own experience and those close to me that the meds used to sedate you during surgery can have long(like a few weeks)term effects on your emotions.
different people have different reactions to the sedative and if you have to have any surgery again be sure to mention this reaction to the anesthesiologist.
There is essentially no chance you have become addicted to those medications in that short of period of time, unless you have a previous history of drug or alcohol addiction. Your depression and anxiety are more likely due to the stress associated with the disruption of you life due to the surgery. Depression after major surgery is pretty common, and generally will resolve as you life returns to normal. If your depression persists you made need treatment.
over time when taking such strong pain meds your body will sort of develope an addiction depending on how much the patient is taking. all those symtoms are normal though for most all pain meds they make you feel good for a while and then they start to bring you down. The longer you take them the more often you will feel agitaded, grumpy and depressed. i reccomend to keep lowering your dose and maybe try and ween your self over to aleve or something over the counter.
Percocet is a highly addictive narcotic. There are lots of people who become dependent on it, even though they start off following the doctors orders. Contine to try to take as little as possible. Also, your symptoms may not be signs of addiction, but may stem from the pain itself. A lot of the time people who are in pain (chronic or acute) will exhibit depression and agitation, simply because they don't feel like themselves. Personally, I get a little mean and irritable when I have a really bad headache or cramps. Stick it out a few weeks longer (or however long you need to), and I'm sure you'll return to your normal self. And just be careful not to take too much!
Oxycodone is a truly dangerous drug and is highly addictive.

It is quite possible you are having a reaction to either taking it or not taking it, keep in mind that it is a very powerful narcotic in the opiate category.

Please be informed that withdrawals from this drug for me included: headache, chills, extreme intestinal irritation (polite way of saying it), fever, could not eat, nauseated, grouchy, moody, and it ended up swinging into bizarre emotional ups and downs, including irrational fears.
I feel for you, I have been on oxycontin for over 4 yrs and have had 3 back surgeries. I am also on the immediate release oxycodone, and fentanyl patch. Since my last surgery in April of this year, I have significantly decreased all of my meds, and sometimes I get the same symptoms you speak I saw my doctor Tuesday, and he said I need to take the meds sometimes for pain, but mostly because of the withdrawal. I have been told it may take me up to a year to go off of them since i have been on them so long. As a hospice nurse, we have found that patients who truly have pain, rarely become addicted to opiates. The key is to decrease slowly, and since percocet has Tylenol and oxycodone, it is bad on your liver. Feel free to IM or e mail me, if necessary
