21 and lower back pain?

Question:
I'm 21 years old and have been experiencing lower back pain off and on for awhile now. I do a fair amount of "light" yardwork as I live on 15 acres of land and I think this may have something to do with it. Cracking my back and over-the-counter meds like tylenol and asprin don't help that much but a heating pad applied to by back does wonders. What do you think?

BTW: I've been cracking my back for years...is this bad?

Answers:
well i am 25 and live with lower back pain every day of my life...i would say that no cracking your back by yourself is not necessarily the best thing but going to a chiropractor can do wonders as long as there aren't any pinched nerves..basically when you crack your back all you are doing is popping air bubbles that's why it cracks...if heating pads work that's great but if the over the counter meds aren't working anymore i would probably consult your doctor...see if they can recommend something like celebrax or naproxen which are anti-inflamatories they might help with cracking situation...the anti-inflammatory will bring the swelling down which should stop the air pockets from forming..and if that still doesn't work i would suggest something like vicodin or percocet all though highly addictive it can work for short term pain until you can actually figure out what is wrong...good luck with all your yard work i know that can't be too much fun, however becareful with your lifting cause that could cause your problem to worsen...
You haven't said if you have experienced any back injuries in the past. Doing the work you described shouldn't cause you problems. If I were you, I would have an X-ray done, and tell the Dr. of any back injuries you have had such as falling from a bike, skateboard, or some other thing. Have you been in any accidents? Lifted anything that gave your back a bad jolt of stabbing pain? It is said that the body never forgets.

As for cracking your own back, I have too, but please get an X-ray, and preferably at a D.O. Osteopath Dr. They have full medical degrees and also training similar of a chiropractor. They don't have you coming in 2-3 times a week like chiropractors often do. Sometimes doing it on your own can do more harm than good.
Stop cracking your back. You may have disc herniations causing the pain. I suggest seeing a back specialist and gettin MRI done. A nephew of your age had similar back pains and he had surgery for herniated discs in his lower back.
