Wound is itching?

Question:
Last week, I had six stitches in my hand to close a cut. Now, the wound is itching like mad! There are no red streaks or drainage; just the obnoxious itch! Can anybody tell me why this is? Serious answers only, please... thanks!

Answers:
i had knee surgery and had stitches also. mine itched like heck too but my doctor said that its normal and that its actually a good thing because that means that it is healing. so dont worry about it.

i hope your hand feels better!! that sucks :[
usually because your skin is healing , if theres nothing else going on with it i wouldnt worry
it's healing. plain and simple. ask the doc if it's okay to use an ointment to ease the itch.
It means it is healing. Live with it. It's a good thing.
It's from the healing process...completely normal, provided it's not swollen, ultra-tender, or oozing stuff. Should go away once the stiches are out. Sometimes you can get a local "allergic" reaction to the stiches but if it's been more than a day since they've been put in it's not from that..just normal healing.
it might be infected a little but I wouldn't worry too much because it's healing.
to be in the safe side, get some antibiotic.
good luck
It's itching because it's starting to heal. The skin tends to get tight and as it heals up it gets itchy. Ask your Dr if you can put aloe, vitamin E, or sensitive skin lotion on it. Best of luck to you.
