Herniated Disk?
Question:

Sounds like you have pretty much covered everything that I know of. You said that you have tried prescriptions but have you tried the steroid called Prednisone? It really works, short term, but there are side effects, such as weight gain, insomnia, extreme hunger, hot flashes, etc. Of course everyone is differant so the effects are differant but those are common complaints. It will however shrink the swelling around the disc to give you some relief.
I had the surgery and do not regret it a bit. I truely knew that the pressure causing the pain was gone when I woke up in recovery. It's been 2 yrs now since I've had it, and they said that I have a little bit of fatty tissue where the disc was that they want to shrink, but other than that everything is great!!
I highly recommend it.
What ever you choose I hope you get the relief that you deserve, Good Luck.
Ouch, this is bad. Not much you can do for it. Try a little mild exercise every day, like 20-30 minutes of brisk but gentle walking. Make sure you have a good mattress. Then just keep up with your other treatments until your surgery.
good luck!
might have doctor prescribe prednisone, but only safe for short term use ,but in my case it did relieve the pain and some of the stiffness
My boyfriend has a couple herniated disks in his lower spine and after failed medication the Doctor (spinal surgeon) gave him injections (that I believe were collogen) that basically made a cushion between the disk and the nerve. He has been pain free for about a year. If you haven't seen a specialist, I would reccomend you do...and ask about these injections.
I also have had herniated disc. My neurosurgeon suggested complete bed rest for at least two weeks which helped some, but after a while I had to go back to work. He also wrote me a prescription for physical therapy. This has helped me tremondously. You also might want to try aqua therapy, this seems to help a lot of people. As far as pain, I am not a big pill taker I have used medrol dose pack but hate the way it makes me feel. I try hot showers, and use a heating pad to sleep on most of the time.
