Avoiding severe dehydration and switching to an alkaline diet would help.
It could be another stone, kidney stones often reoccur, however they can pass on their own as well. Drink lots of water, if it is a stone that doesn't pass of course you will know it because of all the pain. Also make sure you do not have an infection, take your temp, is your urine cloudy, smelly or any other unusual color. If it seems like an infection, yes go see your doctor.
It could be another stone. Once you have had one you usually have another. My fiancee had to have surgery about three months ago and they did a CAT scan and found more in both his kidneys. They will hurt even the smallest ones because the stones have pointy edges and scrapes the ureter (which is the tube that runs from the kidney to the bladder). You will have pain til the stone goes into the bladder. Go to the ER and they will do a CAT scan to be sure and they will give you pain medication, if its another stone. My fiancee has had at least four stones after his surgery. Each time, I made him go to the ER. He would always fall to the floor in pain and ball up like a baby. If its your right side that you are having the pain, it also could be your appendix. So go to the ER. The doctor told him it was calcium build-up, so he can't have any milk, cheese, coffee(which we didn't know that til the doctor said so), and butter. It can also be potassium build-up( my friend always gets them). Did they ever test the one you had surgery for?
