Hi, He does not need to see the doctor just yet. You dont need to give him anymore nedicine either.
You do not treat a fever untill it reaches 102.0 or higher. A fever is your childs body's way of fighting off a infection. Anything below 102 just try and keep him comfortable.
If it goes above 102. then you should give him Tylenol and or motrin. If you gave motrin first and it has not started working enough to keep the fever down then you can safely give tylenol every four hours and motrin every 6 hours at the same time.
Next if you have applied for state insurance and you are granted it, the insurance should cover any bills incurred since the time of the application. So should he worsen you can have the bills paid through medicaid. If you need more help please email me. kym_21@hotmail.com I have 4 children and two have medical problems so we have been through this. I also have had some paramedics training, and Im more than willing to help you through this. Good luck with the little guy and remember to push the fluids to keep him hydrated.
Your son's life is more important than any bill!
Take him now!!!
101.7 is not that high of a temp. DO NOT attempt to bring his fever down as this is his bodies way of fighting off what is wrong with him. He does not need to go to the hospital at this time. So long as he is playing ok and not having OTHER problems that might need a doctor just let him be. If he gets crabby fill a tub with lukewarm water and some bubble bath and let him play in the tub. Give him plenty of liquids and whatever he wants to eat and monitor him. For now he is fine and please leave the temp alone so his body can fight off what is wrong.
You can actually alternate between Tylenol and Motrin, giving it every 3 hours. So if you gave him Motrin at 9:30, he can have Tylenol at 12:30, then Motrin again at 3:30. Keep doing this until the fever is down. If you can't get it down with meds and cool washcloths/towels on his forehead, and if it gets up to like 102 and doesn't go down, you really need to take him to a doctor. A lot of hospitals offer discounts for self-pay patients, and sometimes even enroll you in a charity program that will pay most of the bill for you. Good luck!
its proably nothing to worry about...try giving him cold drinks or better yet popcicles..if you put cold liquids in your child it will push the fever out...do not cover him up thinking that will help him sweat it out..in a child that causes his fever to go up

* First of all you should get the temperature less by using cold bandages over its forehead, but beware getting its chest or stomach wet with cold water.
* There are certain suppositories which help reduce temperature.
* God help you out of this and a big kiss to your son.
There is no need to run to the hospital just for a fever! A fever is the body's way of fighting off an infection. He had a Doctor before you lost your insurance right? Call them if he gets worse, it's way cheaper than a hospital bill! Why on earth would you go to a hospital or a Dr.'s office over a fever? What other symptoms is he having? I'd just wait and see what is going on with him! You have to use some common sense and not just run to the Dr or hospital every time your kid gets a fever! No wonder the health care system is in such trouble!
I am a Mother of grown children and I have grandchildren. Without any other symptoms, like pulling on his ear, a bad cough etc, I see no reason to take him to the doctor. I would continue to give the Motrin as prescribed on the bottle for his age and weight and defiantly give any type of fluids. Remember, a fever is the body's way of fighting off an infection or virus. unless his temp. goes over 102 degrees or even higher I wouldn't be that concerned. As strange as it seems, don't wrap him in blankets or warm clothes. Let him wear as little as possible. The more warm you make him the higher you push the fever up.
Perhaps you can go on the Internet to get more information as you seem to have access to one. I hope this helps.
I just went through this over the weekend. I was able to take my child to the hospital and the only thing the doctor said was to alternate Tylenol and Motrin and make my son drink lots of cold fluids. I put him in the tub and rubbed him down with alcohol and made (almost forced) him to drink down cups and cups of cold water while still giving him the Tylenol and Motrin.
Give your child a sponge bath to make him or her more comfortable and help bring the fever down. Use only lukewarm water; cool water may cause shivering, which actually raises body temperature. Never use rubbing alcohol (it can cause poisoning when absorbed through the skin) or ice packs/cold baths (they can cause chills that may raise body temperature).
Dress your child in lightweight clothing and cover him or her with a light sheet or blanket. Overdressing and overbundling can prevent body heat from escaping and can cause a temperature to rise.
Offer your child plenty of fluids to avoid dehydration - a fever will cause a child to lose fluids more rapidly. Water, soup, ice pops, and flavored gelatin are all good choices. Avoid drinks containing caffeine, including colas and tea, because they can cause your child to pee more.
Make sure your child's room is a comfortable temperature - not too hot or too cold.
