JAW PAIN please help!?

Question:
Ok this isn't me, but my sister. Tonight, she was saying her jaw was in severe pain. It's not both sides of her face, about 2 inches away from her chin. She says that it hurts also when she opens her mouth. She is crying it's so bad. She's taken tylonel. I want to know if I should take her to the ER. Please respond asap! I need advice!

Answers:
Yes take her to the hospital.
She may be suffering from a dislocation. This can happen on it's own. I would suggest you take her in. It may also be an abscessed tooth. Hope she feels better.
She very possibly has a condition called TMJ (transmandibular joint dysfunction). It is harmless but very, very painful. A dentist can give her a mouth guard to sleep in and it will straighten it out.
By all means get it checked out
Understand that it could be muscles with knots in them (knots is a good description because when a muscle does not relax the fibers bulk up in the middle and stretch thin on the ends -the ends are usually where they hurt). To tell if that is part of what is going on rubbing your hand lengthwise down a suspected muscle the tender spot if it is kind of like a nodule it is probably muscles.
For more information on muscles read The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook by Davies.
