I have had the same injury a number of yrs ago and know that it was very painful. i dont think that an ultrasound will show the injury. make sure your dr. does a good exam to determine the problem and if i remember correctly, just rest & time is the best for healing. Hot (i think) compresses may help relax the muscles in the neck, and u can talk to your dr. about pain medications and rx muscle relaxants.
A pinched nerve in the neck is seriously painful. You could get an epidural (steroid short) above the disk that is creating the problem and it will, in most cases, relieve the pain. This is only a temporary fix though. I work in the post office and that is a common problem there. Most of the guys have gone through physical therapy and then, later on, had to have surgery performed.
