Possibly broke little toe?

Question:
I stumped my little toe really bad on my vacuum about a week ago, and it has stayed a bit swollen. It has been tender, but now it has begun hurting kinda in the edge of the long part of the outside of my foot. Could this mean it was broken? Is it healing? It isn't bruised that bad, but it is still big and swollen.

Answers:
It could have very easily been broken, but there is going to be little that you or a doctor can do about it at this point.

If your toe is bruised, especially if the bruise runs more than about 1/4 down the outside of your foot, I would suggest an x-ray to rule out a fracture of your fifth metatarsal (very common). If it's just the toe itself, or if there is no bruising, I would recommend taking a small piece of medical tape and taping your little toe to the toe next to it. This will immobilize it and help it to heal. If the problems persist for more than another two weeks, I would seek medical help.

Best of luck and happy healing!`
It could be broken. Can you move it? There isn't really a lot the docs can do for a broken toe. Usually they just tape it to the toe next to it for support.

I stubbed mine the other day and it actually bruised and swelled up. Never done that before. And it hurt off and on, but after a day or two it was fine. Good luck with yours!
