My husbands ankle is swelled up 3 times as large as his other ankle?

Question:
As a child he was born with clubed feet, he's now 45. I was wondering if arthritis can cause swelling. He didn't injure himself in any way, so I know it's not a sprain.

Answers:
Keep his feet elevated- and put him on a low sodium diet no fast food, boxed, canned, prepacked foods- until you can have it looked at by a doctor- press into his ankle with your thumb, if the indentation of your thumb print on his ankle is white after you release it, doesn't go away immediately- it is water retention.
Does osteoporosis run in his family? Sudden swelling of one ankle occurs after a fractured bone. Is it painful? With osteoporosis, the bones become more porous and can break very easily (you can break a rib with a hug). And yes, men get it too. Clubbed foot wouldn't cause the swelling. Arthritis can cause swollen joints, but not that severe.
cellulitis? neuropathy? Really should get medical help.
Why don't you go to the doctor?
There are many possibilities, is this a relatively acute thing or chronic and slow process? It could be an infection if it is read and swollen. It could be a DVT (Deep Vein Thrombosis) and the blood is backing up behind the clot, (medical emergency)
It could be lyphedema or complications from varicose veins. Would suggest you have a doctor look at it quickly if it is relatively acute to make sure it isn't DVT otherwise regular doctor's appointment should help*
