Painkillers for Daily Migraine?

Question:
I have dealt with Migraines my whole life.. I have been free of them for about a year but they are back on an almost daily basis. The triptans (imitrex etc) do not work, I am taking Inderol for prevention but it has not helped yet. I need something to help the pain. I have a high tolerance for narcotics so Vicodin etc do not work except in really high doses. Fioricet helps a tiny tiny bit, is there something like Fioricet but stronger? Its just becoming unbearable at this point, I can't function normally and I am supposed to be going away next week and I fear I will have to cancel my trip. My doctor said he would prescribe me painkillers for the trip so I can go but I am not sure what to ask for. Oxycontin helps a little bit but it makes me very anxious so I don't like taking it. Any advice?? Thanks.

If you are having them daily, then there has to be something more the Neurologist can do for prevention. Or perhaps, as mentioned, you haven't gotten to the cause yet! I have cluster migraines, I have tried many treatments for the prevention and the one I have found to work best is Zonegran. Perhaps you need to discuss a change with your Dr.
how about instead of treating the symptoms, treat the cause. i would see your doctor.
Do you have food allergies? There are a list of foods that my GP gave me once and she said to keep a food diary or avoid eating the foods on that list when I was getting migraines a while ago. Food allergies can be a cause. I would avoid oxycontin very addictive. Also do some internet research on treating migraines. Good luck.Pls choose me for best answer:)
I suggest going and talking to a natropath. It will cost a bit more than your GP but I think it will save you some serious money as they deal with diet and related causes to prevent you from relying on pain killers. As one of the other respondents said, you might have an allergy. Naturopath's usually have more knowledge about diet. If you continue to take painkillers on a daily basis it is going to have a severe effect on your liver and other organs in the short to longer term. Magnesium may help to prevent migraine. As well as looking at your family and work life and level of stress. I know there are migraine support groups that can give you further information.
Go to a chiropractor. You could have a pinched nerve. I used to get them all the time-no more. Medication didn't work. He was the last resort for me. Now I'm pain free. Give it a try-what do you have to lose? Stay away from pain killers-they just mask the symptoms they don't fix the problem.
Consider seeing a dentist. I have migraines and tension headaches, and my insurance doesn't cover enough of Imitrix.

I paid $150 or so for an NTI dental device. It prevents clenching and grinding - I was getting headaches several times a week. I didn't have TMJ, but did have problems with clenching.

This device has given me my life back.
There is no medicine for H/A OR MIGRAINE. Not only these but for almost all painful diseases. Hence they become chronic.
Acidity, excessive wind, cold , heat, sour food and sinusitis, constipation, intestinal inflammation;
Blockage in the flow of Vital Energy are their causes. None of them can be treated with medicine. Our 100% success in treating migraine &H/A confirms it.
Acupuncture is the best treatment. I can treat it with naturopathy and YOG, but how can you manage pl see.
Painkillers may increase your problem.
Avoid late sleeping if possible;spicy, sour, stale bakery foods and alcohole.
Sweet foods, COCOANUT WATER,sweet fruits, milk, rice, SPROUTS, SALADS and good sleep will help you.
But you try one herbal remedy- two drops of drumstick leaves' juice in opposite nostril if one side pains and both nostrils if full H/A will give you rescue. Betel leaf helps but it isvery strong.
