How many times can you go to the emergency room for pain relief without them calling you a drug addict?

Hate to say it, but I've wondered the same thing. I have fibromyalgia and before I was diagnosed I went to the ER quite a few times. Of course they never found anything wrong. Then...My rheumatologist went out of town without calling in my prescription refill and I was forced to go to the ER AGAIN! They did look at me strange and ask tons of questions, but I told them my doctor told me to go there. The last time, my doctor was out of town again (I have a new doctor now) and I told them what happened. The nurse said, "Why are you here? Are you having withdrawals?" Anyway, they wouldn't treat me and told me to either go home or go to the nearest health clinic. When my doctor got back I told him what happened and he just agreed that you can't go to the ER constantly or they do label you as a "drug-seeker". Oh well... They don't have to live with my pain, do they?
why ,are you?
something about this question makes me think you already are...
Most of them assume you're an addict the first time...

I wish my insurance was better.. I'd go to the ER for something for my heels.. they hurt so bad I could cry...
if you're in that much pain, you need a regular Dr to give you a prescription...don't use the emergency room as your clinic. People need it for emergencies.
twice, depending on the situation. sometimes the first time..

Married to a trauma nurse.
you don't need to go to the emergency room to get meds...try out "pain clinics". most of them dispense meds onsite...
Not many. Also keep in mind that every time they give you narcodics they keep a record of it at the hospital in your case file just for the purpose of knowing whether you are in fact a drug seeker or not. I would recomend finding a "pain management and rehabilitation physician in your area, as they are about the only doctors that are licensed to give out large doses of narcodics. Keep in mind that you will probably have to sign a contract with the physician stating that they have the right to do blood or urine tests at any time and medicine counts along with other rules and regulations to keep you AND them safe. Most other doctors are not comfortable or cannot give out pain medication, because they have to have a DEA number to do so and they are monitored very closley to make sure they are not abusing or not monotoring their patients correctly, by giving someone too much or too often. (not to judge) but if you are finding yourself trying to find ways to get medication that you may not need then I would suggest seeking the help of a rehabilitation facility that can help ween you off of what you are taking, to keep you from suffering from the pain of withdrawls. A lot of them now offer outpatient services and have medications that will curb the withdrawl symptoms. If you havn't gone down that path, think long and hard before you take that next pill because it will be the longest road back once you realize it's not worth it anymore. Trust me, BEEN THERE, DONE THAT! If you do infact have signifigant pain problems then go about it the right way and seek a specialist like the one I mentioned above. Your regular physician can refer you to a good one, or you can do a local search on Yahoo local. Good luck to you, and feel better soon :o)
All the pills in the world will not fix your problem. Do you want to get rid of the pain or do you want the doctors to continue to rip you off.
Here how to rid yourself of the pain, its cheep so you wont do it I'll bet.
Stop dirnking everything that has sugar, coffee, and liquard, and start drinking only distilled water. This water will convert your blood to an insulator and the pain will be less. This is about $2.00 a case (three gallons). Stop all other bottle drinks such as is on the market.
