Well, that happens. As a supervisor I would much rather have an employee tell me the truth rather than make up silly excuses.
If you haven't called in yet, do so now and explain what happened. Tell your boss that you will get there ASAP and that you are very sorry and it won't happen again..and you make sure that it doesn't! Most bosses will accept this sort of thing happening once, it's when it becomes a habit that your job will be in danger.

Well, you can go with the " I'm sick " excuse, the " a relative's sick " excuse, or the " car won't start " excuse. But, I remind you, these are all played out.
Say that your precious dog (if you have a dog) got out and you had to catch it, and that you are on your way to work.
New job? bend over buddy cause with the job market the way it is you know doubt are going to get it and with out even a kiss. Call quick and tell them you over slept and will be there as soon as you can.
tell them you were hurrying to get ready for work and you ran smack into the edge of door and think you broke nose as it wouldn't stop bleeding. they cab't expect a guy with bood poring from nose to drive to work , much less even work - foolproof
