I fell directly on my knee on some pavement. I broke some skin and my kneecap is really sore.?
Question:
Answers:
you probably just bruised it pretty good. it will take about a week to where it starts to feel better.
make sure to wash the abrasion well with warm water and mild soap. you can apply a thin layer of neosporin to prevent infection. cover with a guaze square to prevent your pants from rubbing against it, causing irritation.
watch the scrape for signs of infection
-increased redness or swelling around the scrape
-it begins to drain liquid of any kind
-the area becomes more tender, painful, hot to touch
-you begin to run a fever of 100.5 or higher
these are all signs of infection and you'll need antibiotics to treat it
as for the kneecap, if you begin to have more trouble bending it or are suddenly unable to bend it-then make an appt to see your dr to rule out fracture or joint injury
you can apply ice 10-15 mins at a time to help relieve pain and swelling. do not apply the icepack directly to your skin to avoid ice burns.
if not allergic-you can take ibuprofen for pain and swelling. take 200-400mg every 6 hours as needed but no more than 1200mg in 24 hours.
hope you feel better soon
You may have bruised the bone. As long as there is no significant swelling, then it will only take time, even as much as 2 months for everything to heal.
its just sore, chances are you just scraped it. if the pain is unbearable try a motrin or an asprin.
I had the same thing happen and it turned into water on the knee in a few hours. Put some ice on it (but be sure to use a towel so the ice isn't against the skin directly) An ibuprofen will help too because it will help reduce any swelling. Since there is so little padding on the knee even a small amount of swelling causes a lot of pain.
It may be just bruising, so try an ant-inflammatory, and rub in some Deep Heat, or even Vix is great for injuries. You could have a small fracture. Go get an X-ray soonest, just to put your mind at ease, and keep your leg up, and don't use that leg to get out of chairs for the next few days. Even if it is minor, it can give you lots of trouble in later life.
u just fell hard, no biggy
Heh, I did the same thing a few months ago (except it was on a flight of concrete stairs). I scraped my knee up and ended up bruising the knee cap. I had the same pain you seem to be having. Take ibuprofen for pain and swelling and ice it whenever you can. It's painful and my pain lasted over a week, but it did get better. If it is still causing you problems, I would suggest seeing an Orthopedic surgeon. Good luck and happy healing!
