Tetanus shot?
Question:
So, I'd like to know
What are some side affects?
Reactions?
Pain on a scale of 1-10?
Ways to calm down?
Anything else.
Answers:
The site of the injection could get a little red for a few days. And it could be quite sore to the touch or if you accidentally bump it. The day you get the shot put an ice pack on it, or a bag of frozen peas. You'll be just fine in a couple days.
Ways to calm down? Breathe deeply and try to relax as much as possible. See if you can get the nurse in a conversation about something that interests you, books, movies, music, etc. so that you're distracted when he or she actually gives you the shot.
Not a big deal. I don't like injections either!
Damn it why the hell is everyone afraid of shots ! Its about 30 Seconds of pain ! Can you handle 30 Seconds of pain ! Jeez !
it should feel like a little pinch. (scale 4)
sometimes you get a fever with the shot.
think about the doc being naked! that will take your mind off what he/she is going to do!
Close your eyes and before you know it it's over..
The most common reactions are local reactions at the injection site, such as soreness, redness, and swelling.
You can reduce the soreness by keeping your arm relaxed. If you tense up it increases the soreness later. Also, make sure you move the arm as much as possible for the first 24 hours or so afterwards to keep the muscle loose.
I too fear getting shots (and I'm a nurse) but I know from experience that if I don't tense up there is little discomfort afterwards.
i got a tetanus shot just a few months ago. it wasn't as bad as i thought it would because i hate shots also. the nurse was really nice which made the experience less horrifying. my arm felt a little sore after because the shot is directly injected into the muslce. other than the soreness, i felt fine.
You know, you could just say you don't want the shot. This is not mandatory in most states, but the schools will force it on you like it is. I have never been vaccinated, and at 30 yo, I haven't even given it a second thought. The likelihood of getting tetanus from anything is so slim, you are more likely to win the $300 million lottery with your siblings birthdates.
