An anti inflammatory (and pain killing) drug.
A strong perscription only painkiller of the anti-inflammatory variety. Also goes by the name of Voltarol.

Can be effective, but not suitable if you can't take other anti-inflammatory preparations.

DRUG CLASS AND MECHANISM: Diclofenac is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) effective in treating fever, pain, and inflammation in the body. As a group, NSAIDs are non-narcotic relievers of mild to moderate pain of many causes, including injury, menstrual cramps, arthritis, and other musculoskeletal conditions. Since the response to different NSAIDs varies from patient to patient, it is not unusual for a doctor to try different NSAIDs for any given condition.
an anti-inflammatory. It is supposed to relax muscle spasms and reduce swelling
Diclofenac is a NSAID (non steroidal anti inflammatory) the generic for the anti-inflammatory Voltaren. I take it for arthritis inflammation. It can also be used in other combinations (Voltarol, etc). See the link for more info. Best wishes.

Hi,

Diclofenac works by blocking the action of a substance in the body called cyclo-oxygenase (COX). Cyclo-oxygenase is involved in the production of various chemicals in the body, some of which are known as prostaglandins. Prostaglandins are produced by the body in response to injury and certain diseases and conditions, and cause pain, swelling and inflammation. Diclofenac blocks the production of these prostaglandins and is therefore effective at reducing inflammation and pain.

Diclofenac is used to relieve pain and inflammation in a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions, including various forms of arthritis, gout, sprains, fractures, dislocations, back pain, tendinitis and frozen shoulder. It is also used to relieve pain and inflammation following dental, orthopaedic (bone) and other minor surgery.

It is probably the second commonest NSAID = non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, used in UK. Ibuprofen is probably the first.

It is a moderately potent painkiller as well. Common side effects are gastrointestinal irritation, including ulcer formation. Chronically it is also mildly cardiotoxic.
a fancy name for ibuprofin
diclofenac is a non steroidal anti inflammatory and is used to treat pain and swelling. Its in the same class of drugs as ibuprofen but has a slightly different profile of action. If it is something you have been prescribed your pharmacist should have provided you with a patient information leaflet which will tell you all about what you are taking
