What physio should i do for my knee?

Hi Nancy;
It depends on what ligament is torn in your knee and whether is associated with a cartilage (meniscus) tear or not .
If after injury, your knee swelled up and stared to feel that your knee gives way it is most likely the Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is torn , if you suffer from pain in the inner side of your knee when you twist the leg or when you cross your legs it is likely that you have torn the inner cartilage inside the knee ( it is a shock absorbent cartilage called Medial Meniscus ).
You need to have MRI scan to confirm the diagnosis. If the Anterior cruciate ligament is torn you need to have Physiotherapy to strengthen the Hamstrings and then you will probably need to have a key hole surgery to reconstruct the torn ligament followed by Physiotherapy to strengthen both Quadriceps and Hamstrings .
Good luck
Work it in a pool!
You NEED to get in to see the therapist b/c you need a qualified professional to instruct you properly on exercises you should and shouldnt do. If not then you risk doing more harm than good.
i had acl surgery a couple of months ago and am currently in physical theapry...these are some of the exercises i was given the day after surgery so they'll probbally be some good ones for you to do
quad sets (tighten your quads 2 x 10 hold each for 10 seconds)
leg lifts (work for 1000 a day)
heel slides(slowly slide your heel until it pulls 2 x 10 hold each for 10 seconds)
laying abduction (lay on your 'good side' tighten the quad and raise your leg hold 3 seconds then lower 3 x 15)
pretty much anything to strengthen your quads or hamstrings
you really need to get into pt (it really helps)*
*good luck*
