Cast for 3 weeks, now boot...is that normal?

Question:
I broke my ankle 3 weeks ago and it was put in a cast. Today, doc took cast off and gave me a walking boot, told me to use crutches and put some weight on it, and do hot/cold foot baths. He said bone has not yet fused but it is in the right place. So why would he put me in a boot? He said something about swelling and circulation in calf. Does this make sense??

Answers:
yes it does. increased activity will increase circulation and thereby increase the rate of healing. Do what your doctor tells you to do.
