A cushion is on a chair or a sofa, is usually decorative an kinda small.
A pillow is on a bed to sleep on, its usually bigger than a cushion, more soft and white.
Answer to Q1: when you use the cushion to sleep on it, then it becomes a pillow.

Answer to Q2: difference is that cushion has a purpose to soften/ reduce the impact between your body and the object where you are sitting on or leaning or standing even hitting or to support your body posture, while the purpose of the pillow is to sleep on it.
No difference they all end up on the floor in our house...
ok #1 a cushion becomes a pillow when you sleep on it and it is used in you bed.

ok#2 the difference is that cushions are used as decorative items. on couches,chairs.etc. a pillow is used as a support to your head while you are sleeping
etc A cushion is usually a small square shape and firmer used to put behind the back while sitting and used mainly on a sofa ,couch of chair
A pillow is oblong and softer for laying the head on while sleeping
These days both can be any shape or size but it is still usually the firmness and use that distinguishes them both
you sleep on a pillow but you dont sleep on a cushion (its not comfy!)
