Sounds like you've got a 'crick' in your neck, probably from sleeping in a strange position, this can last for longer than a day. Although it can be really painful it generally won't cause any harm, it will probable ease of within a couple of days. Try having a hot bath or just rub it gently and gently flex your neck forward and back then side to side (not in circles). Keep taking the nurofen, this should be enough to help until it eases off.
(If you have done something, ie had a fall which has caused the injury then obviously you should see a doctor.)
Sometimes sitting in one position (eg on the computer) can give you a bad neck. Sounds like you have a trapped nerve though. If it carries on for more than a couple of days go & see a doctor
I would go see a chiropractor, or a nose and throat specialist for the cold.
It could be a combination of sleeping in a bad position and having a cold. Hope it gets better soon. If it continues, go and have it checked out by a doctor. Also try rubbing something like "deepheat" on it.
My brother did that recently, he woke up and couldn't move his neck, it took him 3 days before he felt a bit of relief. He used heat pads and tried to keep mobile. If it hasn't cleared up by then, you might need to go and see a chiropractor, but it should wear off slowly itself. You have my sympathies, it is not very nice and makes you feel like you don't want to move. get well soon.K
Go to the Doctors and get it checked out, maybe you need anti-inflammatories for a muscle problem. I've had the same problem for months and I'm heading off for physio soon...
put a ice pack on it
GO GET A HOT WATER BOTTLE, FILL WITH HOT (WARM) WATER LAY DOWN WITH IT BEHIND YOUR KNECK FOR 20 MINUTES, THEN TRY COLL (COOL) WATER. ALTERNATING. ALSO HOT SHOWER STRETCHES
I get this when I have a cold, and it is a sign of blocked sinuses. I found the best cure is a warm bath, and a generous helping of red wine.
sitting in a draught does this as well as the other possible causes you have been given i know how painful this can be see your doctor and get some anelgesics are at least some proper medical advice
keep it still keep it warm it could be fibrositis i have a small heat blanket i use for mine if it persists go to your doctor
Heat should help ease it...either a hot water bottle or you could even use a heat pad designed for arthritis sufferers.
