When i go to sleep, and am very tired,i drop off only to forget to breath!?

Question:
I sit bolt upright and gasp to catch my breath, its rather scary to say the least.

Answers:
Sounds like sleep apnea to me. I have it too. If I am really tired, its worse. See your Dr. for a sleep study. You might need something to make sure your breathing at night. Sleep Apnea is very scary and bad for you ( obviously) but it can cause heart problems and even death. Be careful & be sure to see your Dr.!!
Be careful with that! You don't want to wake up dead!
Sounds it! It is actually a medical condition though that is treatable. In the mean time, sleep in a different position, try on your side.
You may have a syndrome called sleep apnia. Go see the Dr.
your just relaxing very much, your body is in built we the program how to breath so you will always start to breath again this is a throat problem, it is some skin that when you really relaxed it will move, you can have it removed if you suffer badly from this

There is a condition called sleep apenea, which causes a person to stop breathing while they are asleep, mostly it is due to being overweight. Have a look at it and see if it makes any sense to you, it's easy to live with though
Go to the doctors. You sound as if you have sleep apnoea. It can be treated
My dad does the same thing. He has sleep apnea.
this is where he stops breathing during his sleep.

If this is what you have then you need to see a docotr. My dad has to wear an oxygen mask to sleep. There is also surery to fix this, but sometimes it can't be corrcted. Which is my dad's case.
Symptoms are:
Loud snoring, followed by pauses and gasps
Restless Sleep
Headaches the following morning
Forgetfulness
Increased heart rate
Decreased sex drive
Mood swings
etc.
sounds like you suffer from sleep apnia, you should see a doctor about it as you may have a heart murmur or something alike this can be dangerous if not managed. i have a friend who wears a mask whilst sleeping to alleviate this, you may not have to go to this but you should get it checked. sweet dreams.
Sounds like sleep apnea, which is not only scary but can really impair your health. Does this happen just once when you fall asleep or often through the night? You should mention this to your doctor...in the meantime, prop the head of the bed up or sleep in a recliner. If you are overweight, lose some. The soft palate relaxes too much (for various reasons) and covers the airway. Some people with serious cases end up sleeping with a mask that forces oxygen into them. I hope your case is not that severe.
don't worry, its physically impossible to die from holding your breath
Sounds like sleep apnea. the good news is there is treatment for the condition. You should talk to your doctor about it and let them conduct the proper testing to make sure that is the condition you have and rule out any other possible problems. There is much information online regarding sleep apnea if you're interested in reading more on the condition. However, that shouldn't replace the advice and knowledge of your doctor. Good luck!
This is sleep apnoea. Are you a bit overweight? What can happen is your throat relaxes and closes when you nod off, cutting off the air. You will probably find you nod off a lot as your sleep is disturbed during the night by you waking up gasping. You should really see a doctor
