Need an honest answer for fractured rib?

Question:
21 yr old son at the doctors right now. he fractured his rib about 5 weeks ago and the past 2 weeks he has a lump right over the rib on the right hand side. it hurts him and very sore. what can the lump be....possible fluid, scar tissue? please inform me. thank you in advance.

Answers:
As the bone heals itself there is something that forms around the fracture called callous. That is new bone which forms in a lump around the broken area, Don't worry as this callous usually re-moulds to the shape of the bone it's forming around.
Sounds like it is healing up like it should. Bone makes a lump like that, and it will take a year or 2 for it to go away. As long as nothing is grating around in there, he's fine, =-)
