Swollen mosquito bite?
Question:
Answers:
It is often difficult, even when you examine lesions like this it is often difficult to tell if this is all reactive and allergic, or partly due to infection. It is therefore common and reasonable practise to use belt and braces, a combination of antihistamines and antibiotics. You therefore do need to see a doctor to organise this. Left alone there is is a risk of systemic spread, this would be potentially serious.
That's an allergic reaction, you MUST go to a doctor before it gets really nasty
sounds like you are allergic me too it is a bummer happens every time you might want to go to dr. but I just put neospoine on it or calomine lotion nothing really helps and dont scratch that releases the posion good luck
I'd go to the doctors!! Not even tropical mosquitoes do that!! Maybe a severe immune reaction to the bite? Dont worry about Malaria just yet though, not malarial symptoms!!
You should be OK. Get an antihistamine cream on the bite. These bites can be enough to drive you insane and the more you itch them the worse it gets. If you are really worried go to your doctor but cannot say I have heard of anyone suffering overmuch from such bites. Keep your leg cool with a cold water compress.
you should go to the Dr for that my friend daughter experienced the same problem she got bitten on the for head and it got really swollen
Try taking anti-histamine as it could be an allergic reaction. It could also be that in scratching it you have caused an infection, which has happened to me in the past. Try anti-histamine and keeping it cold (ice packs wrapped in towels) in the mean time and go to see you GP.
Hello there
I would go and see a doctor to be on the safe side. Experience tells me it is either an allergic response to the bite in which case you should take some anti-histamine tablets which you can get over the counter at a pharmacy.
However if it is red, swollen and painful it could also have become infected and you have cellulitis. As a nurse I have seen a lot of it this summer from insect bites. You will need strong antibiotics quickly if this is the case. If you leave it it may require admission to hospital for intravenous antibiotics as the infection can spread very quickly through the soft tissue.
Good luck and I hope its a sttraightforward reaction but its better to get seen by your family doctor xx
I react like this to all bites from Mosses and also from ants. In summer I look like a swollen pin cushion. Put a antihysterene (don't know if that is spelt right!!) cream on it (avaiable from your local chemist) and when it really starts to itch put an ice pack on - the cold numbs the itching - this is especially good at night time - keep a bowl of cold water next to the bed to cool the itching down during the night when it wakes you up. Oh yes - and DON'T SCRATCH it only spreads the itching and numbing
The same thing happened to me a couple of years ago. My whole calf swelled up and went purple like a big bruise. I went to the doctors but they weren't too helpful. They just told me to take antihistamines and that it would take 5 days or so for them to really kick in.
You may have had a reaction. Go to your doctor and get it checked and if you can remember what the insect looked like, or have a picture (or even better, the insect) take it along.
