First of all, check if you have allergies. If you are suffering from pollen allergies, try incorporating some local honey into your diet. It needs to be as LOCAL as possible in order for it to represent your local flowers and weeds...your nearest farmer's market should have this. Taking local honey will help desensitize you naturally; however, it only works for pollen allergies (not trees, pet dander, etc.) If you can, get the 'wildflower' variety.
Like the others said, you might also have dry eyes. If you wear contacts, try not to wear them as long.
Some remedies for dry eyes:
- drink more water
- rub your palms together to heat them by friction, then cup your eyes with your warm palms...this will have a nice sauna effect. Do this several times throughout the day.
- massage the edges of your eyelids...there are ducts along this edge that usually provide lubrication to the eye, but are commonly clogged. WITH CLEAN HANDS, place your finger horizontally across your eyelid and roll it towards the edge (like rolling pie dough). This might be hard to describe so ask your eye care professional to demonstrate this next time you see them.
- apply warm towels and let it sit on your eyes...this will also help unclog those ducts. If you can get these ducts working again, you may not need to rely on eyedrops.
I really don't know what it is, but I often wake up with my eyes hurting and kinda puffy... Visine always helps almost instantly for me.
It sounds as though you have "dry eye ". I went ot the eye doctor Monday because I was having similar symptoms and that's what they told me. If it feels like you have an allergy to something but you don't know what too and your eyes itch and are red. You should get eye drops and insert them three to four times a day which will relieve irritation and itch.
unfortunatly it is not a home remedy as such. You may have dry eyes. I suffer from dry eyes and my eyes feel tired the whole time so I put in soothing eye drops or you can buy "fake tears" over the pharmacy counter.
try urine therapy. it is the most reliable cure with no side effects.
prepare Chamomile tea with hot water, let it cool toa comfortable temp.(please be craeful, u don't want to burn your eyes as well!).. & dip cotton pads in it & place over eyes & wash your eyes.
also, cup your hands & place over your eyes(wash hands first!!)..this is a Bates method for relaxing & healing the eyes.
I'd also see a dr if this persists, you don't want to risk getting an eye infection as it's very sensitive area.
Fennel seeds have been used for thousands of years to remedy sore eyes and conjunctivitis. Make an infusion as you would a cup of tea, leave covered for 10 mins, strain and when cool, soak cotton wool pads in the infusion and place on eyelids. Relax for 10 mins before removing. Try refrigerating the infusion, very soothing to irritated eyes and reduces puffiness too.
my girlfriend is an optomertrist and i get the same problem as you, infact i find it very difficult to wear contact lenses because of it.
She has told me to do "hot compresses" 3 times a day. Basically, soak a towel in warm-hot water, then simply press this over your closed eyes until it goes cold and then soak it again. Do this for 5 mins 3 times everyday.
I find that even after 1 treatment that im fine for another few hours.
