Heart health, whats up with mine?

Question:
My heart often beats irregularly, very fast and hard. This isn't even during periods of physical activity. Often times laying in bed at night it just randomly starts. Any ideas what this could be? Its very nerve racking and uncomfortable.

Answers:
Could be a paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia, big words, basically, a electrical abnormality in you heart that cause your heart to beat fast and hard. It is generally not dangerous, but as with all muscles if it goes on long enough (hours) your heart muscle can become fatigued, and cause trouble. If you have underlying heart disease like a previous heart attack etc etc. it is crucial for your heart to not beat so fast because it will become fatigued quicker. It can be managed by medication and if that does not work they can do ablation therapy where they basically sever the loop causing the abnormal circuit, it is painless and very successfull.

It might also be panic attacks. They can come on at any point in life, and you do not have to have had a major traumatic experience prior to it. You can have severe symptoms that feels and looks like a heart attack, that resolves itself.

Get yourself checked out by your doc, they can do an ECG, painless procedure, to look at the electrical conduction and rule out a SVT. Good luck.
You may have an arrythmia to your heart rate/rhythm. You may have atrial fib or v tach. Either way, a simple EKG done at your doctor's office should solve the mystery. Call and get an appt. It may be benign or it may be something that can turn into something more serious. Never mess around with your heart. It's trying to tell you something. You need to listen.
Do u have any anxiety or stress going on in your life. Are u worried about your heart, sometimes when u worried about something to much you can actually accumulate something and its nothing. Go the doc. and make sure everything is OK.
I have just recently had a bout with congestive heart failure and was in the hospital. I have often experienced the same sort of thing with my heartbeat breaking rhythm and was worried by it as well. While I was in the hospital, I asked my nurse about all that. She told me that it was fairly normal and that most everybody has that happen too. In fact, she showed amazement at me being worried about such a thing. Just the fact that you lie there and pay special attention to the offbeats causes it to happen more. It is okay :) Don't let it rack your nerves anymore. You are fine, I'm sure.
