Muscle Knots?
Question:
Answers:
By massaging an area, you increase circulation to the area which can cause swelling. Also by massaging this area, you release toxins which your body then tries to wash away. Long-term toxicity to muscles can actually calcify which are probably the bumps you felt. They are difficult to irradicate and the best way to get rid of them is frequent massage. Be sure to drink plenty of water over the next 24 hours. (Rule of thumb is 1 1/2 times your weight in ounces ) Muscles also have a memory and if she has constant knots, they tend to go back to that state. Ice is probably a good idea. Apply for 20 minutes then off for 20 minutes. This will stop the increased circulation to the area and the swelling should subside.
sometimes if you rub too hard it tenses up worse. She might want to try a cold pack..especailly if its swollen. There could be some crap harbored in their too and so that has got to be massaged out and its always good to do the ice pack thing. Make sure she is drinking lots of water to flush out the crap in her body (you get toxins when you massage the muscles, the toxins release and so you gotta flush that stuff out).
These are called 'trigger points', and depending on the area that you find them, could be signs of Fibromyalgia. Fibromyalgia is an unexplained disease with symptoms like fatigue, chronic pain, lack of energy, numbness and/or burning in the legs, and yes, trigger points. Other trigger points can be found by the knees, at the nape of the neck, and several points on the back. The FDA just released an anti-seizure drug, Lyrica, for treatment of Fibromyalgia. I've been on it about a month, and while my trigger points are still there, the spasms have been eased tremendously. I urge you to ask her to see a doctor and ask about Fibromyalgia; there are several factors the doctor can check.
my fiance has the same situation...i rub and rub and rub some more but it seems that the next day the knots are worse and only rubbing them makes them feel better...i found that naproxen (an anti-inflammatory) worked for awhile till he found out that he was allergic to them..so i would try that...I can't figure out why his knots won't go away i am pretty sure it's stress...his job is very stressful...i keep trying to get him to go to a chiropractor because that's what they are good at but he hates any form of doctor...i bought one of those home medics back massagers and that seems to work a little bit but otherwise that's about all you can do...i hope this helps because knots seem to be a unsolved mystery to me...good luck i hope your girlfriend feels better...and your hands make it through all the rubbing...
