It might be that your 'Friend' is an animal, if so try dripping a diluted solution of Hydrogen Peroxide into the ear a couple of times a day.

yeah u said dont answer these question if u dont know but i know the answer pain problem is u have not elaborated the findings.if there is wax remove it out with syringing...dont use hydrogen peroxide it will damage the drum of the ear.if ringing in the ear cinnarazine 25mg tid.if none of these then ask to go to doc.
a very old house remedy is to put a little bit warmed oil in the ear an other is to use otalgan. but better is to see a doctor
