What is a moist heating pad I could use for sciatica?

Question:
A friend uses coldpack and hotpad alternately. Is this good for sciatica? I am doing exercises the doctor recommended. Can't afford massages, treatments with acupuncture etc. (No Medical Insurance)

Answers:
Most drugstores sell a heating pad that has a think foam rubber insert that goes in between the pad and the pad cover. You dampen the foam pad, not soak it, and place it over the heating pad.
You could wet a washcloth or small towel and heat it up in the microwave, but make sure it is not too hot before you use it on yourself... you only need to heat it for like 20-30 seconds...
